Know Your Audience

The event is a space shared by you and your participants. Take some time to Know Your Audience to craft an event best suited for their needs.

Creating better conditions for attendees to experience safety, welcoming, and belonging relies heavily on how well you know your audience and their unique needs.

Will this be the first time this audience enters a space centered on the KQT experience? Do most attendees identify as trans, non-binary, and/or gender nonconforming? Will some KQTs have fluency with Korean language while others do not?

Consider the following tips to help you get to know your audience better and to help prospective attendees understand whether or not this is an appropriate space for them to join.

Be Transparent, Intentional and Explicit

Invite attendees to share more information about who they are and where they’re coming from. Create areas in your intake and registration materials where attendees can share information about themselves.

Out of respect for privacy and confidentiality, we recommend keeping specific requests for personal information to remain optional and being transparent about how the information will be used and where this will be shared/seen.

For Example: Requesting Participant Details

“This space intentionally centers KQT Adoptees. We ask that all attendees please share some information about themselves so the facilitators can better understand who will be attending and what needs you may have. All information is confidential and will only be shared with the facilitator(s) to conduct the event.”

Tell us about yourself:

  • Name
  • Email
  • Pronouns (optional)
  • City, State (optional)
  • I understand this is a space for KQT adoptees exclusively and confirm I am a part of this community
  • Is this your first time in a KQT space? (Y/N)
  • Are there any questions you have for the facilitator? (optional)
